MEGADETH Cancels Paraguay Show After Seven Songs, Citing Security Concerns
August 22, 2016MEGADETH canceled its show in Paraguay Saturday night (August 20) after seven songs when fans broke through the barricades protecting the stage, leaving several of them injured.
According to Agence France-Presse, alcoholic beverages in glass bottles were being sold at the Sport Colombia stadium in Asuncion, with some of the fans hurling the containers onto the stage.
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine tweeted that the band had to scrap the remainder of the show for security reasons.
"Dear Paraguay, after all three barricades broke and hundreds of fans crushed three security guards, almost killing one female fan, we regretfully had to cancel the show," he wrote.
"Please understand that your safety is just as important as ours and after all the security went in the pit, someone ran onto the stage, a bottle was thrown, and we'll let you know as soon as we can reschedule and come back.
"This is out of our hands and we will make sure when we return to use a different venue, security, and promoter. Again, Lo siento mucho."
Mustaine also posted a picture of what he said as an inadequate security barrier.
He wrote: "Barricade held by a string at Asuncion. Two crew hit by broken glass thrown by persons in audience. Disappointed."
After a fan told Mustaine on Twitter that the promoter hadn't made any announcements about the concert being called off, with most of the fans finding out about the cancelation through Dave's tweets, the MEGADETH leader responded: "He probably wanted to sell more beer in glass bottles that could be thrown onstage & cut up my crew"
MEGADETH is in the middle of a South American tour in support of the band's latest album, "Dystopia", which came out in January.
